*Meri walks up to the bar and climbs up a stool, motioning for the barkeep to bring out the tome once more with a slight furrow to her brow. After receiving the book, she begs for ink and quill, then begins to write in a steady hand.......*

Hi. Meri again. Somethin kinda strange happened out at the Bath the other night, and thought who ever still reads this might like to hear 'bout it.

I was out with a couple of dwarves and a man, names of Glognar Bouldershoulder, Aarock (can't remember his last name, or maybe he didn't say it. I dunno.), and the man was a mister Darren Patsyn. We had just gotten to the Ogre's Bath area, west of Dale, when one of them goblins started shootin arrows at us.

I've seen a few of them use bows before, so that's not the news. What is the news is that this one acted like he was baiting us on. He'd shoot an arrow or two, then run away, come back, shoot another arrow or two, and run away again, moving around all the time. I tried to warn the ones I was with that it looked like this one was trying to get us to follow him, that it might be a trap, but to no good. The goblin's tactics worked pretty well, with one of the dwarves runnin' off after the goblin, the other dwarf runnin' off after his kinsman, and occasionally, the man runnin' off after either the dwarves or the goblin.

*she sets the quill down for a moment and asks the barkeep for a good ale before she continues on, placing a few coins on the table for the man*

I had lost sight of both the dwarves and the man for a few minutes, then I heard the man running after something to the southwest, and strained my sight, to see he pursued the goblin with the bow still. Since I only knew where one of them was, and he was alive, I decided I needed to help him first, and find the dwarves later. As I fired off a couple of arrows at the goblin, who was still using his "shoot and run" tactic, the dwarf Glognar came into view, and I saw he wasn't hurt too badly. He then threw an axe or two the goblin archer's way, and it slumped to the ground in bloody defeat, losing its last breath as it hit the ground.

*she takes a few quick drinks of ale before continuing her writing*

After making sure the two of them were safe, I glanced around for the other dwarf, and saw him approaching us slowly, bleeding all over the place. He chanted a few words and healed the worst of his own wounds, but still looked pretty banged up and worn out when he said something about "goblins on the hill", and started runnin' off again, followed closely by Glognar. I glanced back at Darren and told him to hurry up before the two dwarves run off and got themselves killed, and he nodded and followed.

There were five or six more goblins around the hill area, but none any more trained than the ones we usually see around the Glades around Dale. After they were "taken care of", a mighty storm started brewing in the air, so I suggested we get back to Dale, with the storm and nightfall approaching fast.

We all got back to Dale in one piece, but with the wind howling around us and lightning striking near to us a few times, though not hitting any of us (strange weather, strong like I've not seen in the area before).

Anyway, I really just wanted to let whoever reads this know about how the one goblin out in the Bath area was able to confuse our little group and get us all separated so quickly and efficiently. I hate to say it, but it looks like they're getting smarter.

*she nods to herself, reading over what she has written with a grim look on her face, then downs the rest of the ale and signs her name to the parchment paper*

This is my view of what happened, anyway. You might ask the others for theirs if you chance to see them.

As Pansy opens the journal on the last entries, instead of closing it with a sigh, she rereads Meri's entry...over and over again, frowning deeply.
"It wasn't a quaint meet after all, now, was it?" she mumbles, taking out a quill and ink.

A while back we.......I think that was we, as in master Neville and lots of other folk of whom the names escape me totally at the time of this writing, but that's not of any importance at the moment anyway.
A while back, coming from the Landing, or from the camp....I don't actually recall where we came from, but doubtless that's of no importance also, i should think.
A while back we were crossing the northern fringes, coming from the south, when I, the author of this entry, you'll find my name at the end of this entry, if I don't forget.....anyway, an archer started shooting arrows at me, since I was the first to come into his sight, most likely, since I walked point, for whatever reason, since I'm not the most likely person to walk point, but somehow that's where I walk. Anyway, after I yelled a warning about an archer being present and firing, thinking at the same time that that was kind of pointless, since nobody seemed to be within earshot, except the archer, fortunately master Neville ran towards the archer already, while I was distracting him, the archer..not master Neville, mind you...with fastmoving pointies of my own.
Amazingly, and I will emphasize it again, to my astonishment the archer took off in a hurried run, closely persuid by master Neville, who had a hard time keeping up, I must say, but also fiollowed by another pointy of mine, which, unfortunately hit the poor archer in the ear.
Pointy being., reading ma'm Meri's entry, I immediately saw the resemblance in tactics of the goblins.
That time in the fringe the archer probably never realised how many we were, and we, who-ever we were, were many. Besides master Neville there were at least other folk present, of whom the names, faces and races escape me still, but I'm sure they'll remember that event also and remind me. Anyway, at the time I was concerned we had intercepted a messenger of sorts, going to unknown and coming from another unknown, although it's safe to say we at least have a general idea of one of those unknowns. But now I'm inclined to feel like we came across yet another type of student of the Hunter of Men. He who was very well known in tactics and strategies.

Be wary, folks.

This entry comes from the hand of your's truly,
Pansy Fellosscobbert.

Lianna motioned to the man behind the counter, "Some of Chele's venison stew please. Oh. You know that record book? I think maybe I should make an entry..."

26th Day of the 11th Month
Entry by: Lianna Sieger

I do not know if it is worth noting but I record this here in the case that it is. Not long ago, on returning to Dragon Dale by way of the Hidden Glen (north west of the Dale) I was attacked by goblins on the outskirts -near one of the farms. Two or three, I cannot remember now. I was caught by suprise but my fists served me well to make room so that I could draw my sword.

Prior to this, while still patroling the Hidden Glen, I noticed a lightning storm but no rain fell. I do not know if the weather is considered odd for these parts.

*Matyas takes the large tome from Budrich with a polite nod, then opens it to the nearest blank page. He unpacks his inkwell, dips a quill into the ink, and begins his writing*

I was in the company of a man new to the Dale, Rens Colt, and we were nearing the end of a patrol from the South to the North Gate when we were attacked by a troublesome force.

As we walked along the ridge of the Glen northwest of the Dale, I heard the sound of a spell being cast. Immediately, a goblin began loosing arrows upon us. We brought him low quickly, but proceeded to explore the rest of the valley.

Perhaps an hour had gone by, before the same thing happened again. This time I saw the spell...a flash of blue light and a goblin appeared before us. As we grew closer to their western cave it happened again and again, and these times the goblins were better armed with morningstars and metal armors.

We vanquished each wave, but I could find no sign of a caster. Night drew upon us, and I was reluctant to take my companion into a situation that might prove overwhelming for him. We returned to the Dale, but I do believe the Glen cave should be investigated soon.

"Hey. I'm going to write something in here...," Aolae said to Budrich reached over the counter and picked up the book. She didn't pay much attention to the barkeep but whatever reaction she got, he didn't stop the large half orc from taking it. She leaned her massive frame over the book and began to write in Common with a suprisingly fluid, yet readable script -the result of training in the Elvish language by her former sadistic Elven master.

Take this for whatever you think its worth but it's probably not a good idea to jump to any conclusions. Just be ready and aware.

Last evening, I went over to have a "chat" with our goblin neighbors in their cave home located in the Hidden Glen. They weren't quite in a verbal mood aside from threats so I thought I'd change those annoying sounds to something else like screaming and begging. At any rate, I killed a goblin warrior and found on him a potion that looks like it's used to bolster resistance to poisons. I'll admit I haven't killed a whole slew of their lieutenants but I've never seen one of these potions before. I hear the stuff's called "Iron Guts."

On leaving the cave, I made a stop by the inn in Dale before heading south to Landing. I think there was a paladin at the inn -some fella in plate - and I thought I'd chat him up about this thing but was a little on the run down side so I decided to get some rest first. He had left by the time I came back down.

The other point that made me decide to write this entry. It might've been completely random but I ran into some spiders on the edge Mhyrrwood. Poisonous ones that seemed to work alongside the goblins. These spiders didn't attack the goblins as I fought them and I came close to visiting the Wailing Wall at their hands. There might be a connection between the two findings, and there might not. I'll leave that to the reader but be careful out there.

-Aolae

Goblins claim one of our own.

Postby JeKylL351 on Fri Mar 02, 2007 3:32 am

*written in a child like scrawl*

I write this after hearin' the news of one of our own fallin'. The elf Aramil, wizard and scholar, was found dead within the goblin cave near Ogre's Bath. His body was brought to Shara, but she could not reach his spirit. From what I hear about the elves paradise, he will be happy there now, with much to read and study.

Me and many others will miss him. Maybe not for his nice words, or friendly smile, since he didn't do either too much. But he was one who told things true, whether you wanna hear em or not. Gotta respect him for that. I know this book is for stuff about goblins, but in a way, this writin' really is about them. We gotta stop them, or more good folk will fall.

How many more will it take? How many Pira's, and Hana's and Nada's. How many Daniel's, Pansy's and Aramil's? How many have we forgot, just cause we are tryin' to push on and keep livin'?

Think on that when next you patrol the glades.

The bluerobed dwarfwoman reached across the bar and took up the dusty tome. Raising a brow, she wipes it clean with her bluecoloured hand. She writes slowly.

This be Vuddor Furi of clan Thundercloud.
Since the last moon the dakrness has settled over the lands. Goblins, though their presence be sparse at the beginning, now has increased yet again. This be wandering the woods to scout on their numbers and favourite parts of the woods. Though larger in numbers than before their presence does not seem to be too pressing to form a definate threat to the Dale town.
Far more pressing is the highly increased numbers of humans near the old bridge and the Vesper town fields. This has been attacked by several groups, some coming at this from the very Vesper fields. This is burdened also with the message that four Dalesmen have fallen near the old bridge. This has taken their corpses to the temple of Light in Vespertown where they will lie untill such time the sun will appear again.

Nodding sharply, she spreads sand over the ink, then closes the tome, leaving it on the counter. Within moments her strong legs have carried her outside again.

In a hasty scribbling hand the following entry is made.

This be a dire warning to all that wander the outlands. This be stumbling upon a goblin encampment. Fierce goblins guarded it and the two shamans. Allthough this survived the meet it was a close call. Thank the Lord of the Jungle Deeps. The goblins carried many a silver trinket on them. One of the shamans wielded a magickal hammer which powers this Vuddor cannot determine. It also carried one of the weightlessening bags alike the ones that can be purchased in town Vesper. The camp seems to be made under the cover of the darkness that settled over the lands before. No doubt that more trouble will follow.
The goblins have hanged a hapless warrior who's identity remains unknown. This thinks he or she might have been dwarven.

Take heed when wandering the outlands.
May the Lord of the Jungle Deeps watch over us.

Nobody seems to take heed of the familiar form of the bluerobed dwarfin as she climbs on a stool and draws the tome to her. A deep frown shows clearly as she starts to write slowly.

This be passing the goblin camp outside the westgate today upon returning from the Mhyrrwood camp. This be surprised to not find it there anymore, it being abandoned. There be runecarved stones visible, forming a circle. This did not take time to study the runes, for they seemed to be not of dwarven origin. If any has an explenation as to why the campsite was abandoned, seek out this, Vuddor Furi, at the Mhyrrwood camp.
For report on the goblins, upon this returning from the Mhyrrwoodcamp many a fiercer goblin roamed the woods. They have been dealt with accordingly. This must make notion of certain goblins carrying trinkets. It seems to this that the vermin have struck upon some source of precious metals and ores.

Still clasping the bloodied bandages over her arm, the bluerobed dwarfin limps into the inn. Numerous tears and slashes have rendered her robe to rags, revealing the dwarfenchain underneath. After finishing an ale, she pulls the tome to her for an update.

This be reporting two observations. First be, the goblins seem to leave the fields and woods sparsely occupied by daytime, though their numbers count many of the fiercer fighters. The southroad is relatively safe also.
At darktime, however, their numbers are multiplied. Warbands roam the wilds, making the scouting both hard and dangerous. This was waylaid by a band of over a dozen strong, guarding the way west to camp from the southroad at the landdrop near the four towers.
Scouts, be wary and travel light.

The blue and gold-robed dwarf takes up his own quill and starts to write.

"The Hidden Glen was crowded yesterday. No less than seven rock-slinging goblins were gathered near the western cave. With great luck and minor spells I managed to break their skulls. Upon traveling southwards to the Vesper Landing the woods and road seemed normal, although the bad weather may have driven the goblins and thieves inside.

Yours truly.
